At Savoy, our story is rooted in family, resilience, and a deep love for Detroit.

Founded by Jai-Lee Dearing and co-owned by his daughter, Melba Dearing, Savoy represents generations of entrepreneurial spirit and hospitality.  The Dearing family comes from a long line of entrepreneurs who helped shape the culinary fabric of Detroit. Inspired by his family’s legacy in the restaurant industry, Jai-Lee set out to create something of his own, something that would honor tradition while bringing a new feel to the eastside of Detroit. He found that opportunity in the heart of the eastside of Detroit, where he established Savoy Restaurant as a destination for exceptional food, live music, and connection.

Welcome to savoy!

Savoy’s journey has been one of perseverance. After building a strong following and becoming a neighborhood staple, a devastating fire forced the restaurant to close. But with determination and community support, Savoy reopened two years later as a renewed flagship restaurant—stronger, more refined, and more committed than ever to excellence.

From the beginning, Savoy has been recognized for its quality and impact, earning accolades from organizations such as the Michigan Chronicle and other respected local publications. These honors reflect our dedication to delivering not just meals, but memorable experiences.

Savoy offers what we proudly call “affordable fine dining”—a welcoming atmosphere where live jazz fills the room and every dish is crafted with intention. Our menu blends Southern comfort and Creole influences with fresh seafood and bold flavors, creating food that speaks to both heritage and innovation. Our culinary leadership brings formal training, creativity, and passion to every plate, ensuring a dining experience that feels both elevated and familiar.

Beyond our flagship restaurant, our reach extends throughout the city. We operate food trucks, provide cafeteria services to major facilities including Chrysler manufacturing locations and federal buildings, and serve guests at iconic venues such as Comerica Park and Little Caesars Arena. Our catering and hospitality services support events and organizations across the region, reflecting our commitment to serving Detroit wherever great food is needed.

Savoy is more than a restaurant—it is a reflection of Detroit’s strength, diversity, and comeback spirit. We are proud to serve a wide range of guests who share one thing in common: an appreciation for authentic hospitality and exceptional food.

And this is just the beginning. With plans to expand and continue growing, we remain dedicated to honoring our roots while building a lasting legacy for future generations.
